“It seems that we live in a century of infectious diseases that is why such events are very important” Momchil Baev, doctor of medicine, founder of “Astra Forum” Foundation said.
He underlined that this year “Astra Forum” Foundation has implemented green policy in terms of the event, while trying to minimize the use of plastic bottles, cups and lates for single use. “While eliminating plastics, we ensure cutting down on carbon print and ensure care after nature.”

Associate professor Mihail Okoliyski, deputy-minister in the Ministry of Health, reminded us that vaccination is among the greatest achievements of our nation. “During COVID-19 people forgot that mankind gets its protection through vaccines. It is our duty to explain people how important it is to pay attention to innovative practices in vaccine prophylactics and not to allow the negative point of view that compromises good achievements.” Associate professor Okoliyski declared that the Ministry of Health for 3 months has managed to elaborate website devoted to topics related to vaccine prophylactics.

“Today we are here to celebrate historical achievements”, Christina de Bruin welcomed – UNICEF representative for Bulgaria.
She reminded that for two centuries already vaccines have been saving lives. “Vaccines are among the stories of mankind and thanks to them many serious diseases have been uprooted.”
Christina de Bruin declared that nowadays world is facing once again crossroads. She presented data from the UNICEF report about vaccines’ status among children. “2,5 million children are with skipped vaccines. There are 327 000 who have not been vaccinated even once.”
Dr. Siddhartha Data from the European Office of the WHO also had a welcoming speech. “History has taught us that we feel how important and precious vaccines are, only after facing an infectious disease. Bulgaria’s achievement is victory over poliomyelitis, yet we should not calm down because viruses are all around us. We, the people in the WHO realize very well what is the benefit of vaccines so the WHO started a very important regional project.”
“For the first time, the European Commission puts cancer first”, Mike Morrissey from the European Cancer Organisation stated. “We need to keep fighting oncological diseases. Cervical cancer is preventable thanks to the HPV vaccine. Morrissey reminded us that a magnificent coalition was created in Bulgaria – Coalition HPV.
“We are here to support the organization you have established. We expect to accelerate combat for lowering the HPV morbidity rate.”

Professor Iva Hristova, chairperson the Scientific Committee of the Second National Conference declared that the event enjoys ever increasing interest and she is looking forward to the third edition of the Conference. “Nowadays we witness how vaccine prophylactics approaches vaccine therapy and actually this is the future. I am convinced that the interesting topics we have selected for the event would bring about important discussions.”
