The first scientific-practical conference targeted at outpatient practitioners on the topic of “Communication with patients and how to better vaccination coverage” was held
The pandemic situation which developed in our country and around the world, the consequences of the coronavirus infection, the war situation in Ukraine, and the massive refugee wave are all great risks to public health in Bulgaria. Those are all important prerequisites for Bulgaria to accelerate both immunoprophylactic and the supervision of contagious diseases within the country. Said topic was in the roots of the first scientific-practical conference for outpatient practitioners with the title being “Communication with Patients and How to Better Vaccination Coverage”. It was targeted at outpatient practitioners. Lecturers were leading specialists in virology, cardiology, immunology, psychology, psychiatry, epidemiology, internal and infectious diseases, and others.
The highlight of the conference was put on building trust in the communication between doctors and patients. The participants were presented with various approaches on building trust, and how trust is an important condition for good results in the regular prophylactic and treatment of patients. A special focus was put on the range of protection against diseases, preventable through proper vaccination, of the Bulgarian citizens and the Ukrainians seeking asylum in our country. It was reported that Bulgaria is behind in comparison to the rest of the European countries with the vaccination rates against COVID-19, but that also the spread of fake news around the vaccines affects the vaccinations from the Mandatory Bulgarian Immunization Schedule. This poses a great threat of epidemic outbursts of diseases, otherwise already eradicated in the country. Thus, again reminding of WHO’s call to not discontinue regular immunoprophylactic so that secondary health and economic crises are avoided.

The scientific-practical conference was organized by the Astra Forum Foundation and the Representatives of the European commission in Bulgaria under the auspices of The Health Commission in the 47th National Assembly, with the assistance of the Ministry of Health and the Bulgarian Doctors Union. It was furthermore supported by The National Association of General Practitioners, Medical University of Plovdiv, The Center for Analysis and Crisis Communications, National Center for Public Health and Analysis, representatives of WHO and UNICEF for Bulgaria.
